Open source is cool, but can it improve the lives of everyday people? Can it improve the way we interact with our government and hold it accountable?
Yes, it can. Derek Eder will talk about the role that open source has played in the open government and civic technology movements in Chicago through his work with DataMade, Open City, and Chi Hack Night. He'll show off some of the open source civic applications he's worked on including Look at Cook, Councilmatic and the Searchable Map Template.
